A recent IOM Report indicates that research accounting for sex and gender differences is improving, but does not yet meet the 30 year old FDA mandate. And, existing evidence is not broadly disseminated so that women can receive the most appropriate treatment. We need to pursue efforts that assure the inclusion of sex and gender distinctions in clinical care and we need to foster the integration of sex and gender sensitivity into medical education and training.

The Sex & Gender Women’s Health Collaborative (SGWHC) is fulfilling its original objective to provide an interactive, openly accessible digital compendium of sex and gender focused medical education resources. Visit us at: www.sgwhc.org

A second endeavor is our work with the National Board of Medical Examiners to assist in identifying areas or language that may need updating or to address gaps in knowledge.

The SGWHC promises to seek opportunities and advance efforts of medical students and future physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and health professionals to gain the necessary preparation to practice with a sensitivity to the influences of sex and gender on health.  After all, Every Cell has a Sex.
